What music should you know about?

I know I haven't posted in a really long time but I'm not dead yet!  Still alive and ready to share some new music to the world.  I'm sick of posting about new albums and such so I'm making a new segment, I'm calling it "what music should you know about?"  I'll probably change the name of the segment by my next post but for this week you should know about Sam Quinn.

He has no relation to the Quinn twins, Tegan and Sara, but none the less he is amazing.  Watching him play you'd almost expect him to pull out a bottle of moonshine out of that gnarly beard of his but his voice is something glorious.  He has this country sad soothing sound to his voice that with the tone alone sets the pace for the most heart wrenching song.  Add on top of that some great lyrics and you've got yourself a great musician you really should know about.
Because I'm a nice guy I'll share one of Sam's solo songs as well as a song from his previous band, the Everybodyfields.

Dessa on tour!

Do you ever have those moments where you realize you've stopped whatever it is you're doing because you've just been consumed by an spectacular song?  Well that happened to me when I first discovered Dessa, and then again evertime I heard one of her songs.  Sadly I ended up missing her first solo show last summer, she was promoting her AMAZING album A Badly Broken Code, but I managed to see her preform with all of her label mates when Doomtree came through.
Thankfully Dessa has given me another chance to redeem myself and check out her solo show during her first headlining tour.  Joining her will be label mates Sims and Lazerbreak.  Last time I saw Sims he was freestyling  and his hook ended up stuck in my head for three weeks.  It was annoying searching google for lyrics that weren't on any album, but in some way I'm sure that's tribute to how great he is live.

Well if you're on the west coast make sure you go check out the tour!

Tom Waits!!!

If you're like me and love Tom Waits then this news will knock you off your seat.
Today he announced via twitter that he's working on his new album.
I'm really looking forward to some new material from him, seeing as how the last studio record we got was back in '06 and that was just a collection!

If you're not like me, or as I refer to you a fool, then I'll just assume you haven't heard the right Tom Waits songs. I can understand his voice is very different but open those ears and check out one of my favorite songs by this blues legend.

The Black Angels

I've loved these psychedelic rockers since I first saw a Zune commercial which played the song Young Dead Men.

The Black Angels have been under the philosophy with their music that if it sounds good, don't change it.  That statement holds true on their newest album Phosphene Dream.  Check out the opening track on the album and get excited about their show at the Urban Lounge on May 6th.

Check out the rest of the tour dates and the super trippy Zune commercial after the jump.

Dead From Above 1979

Ever since Wednesday, January 19, when Coachella announced their line-up I was in awe, literally. I was at work and just stopped and stared at my monitor until my eyes watered up; from either tears of joy or because I had been staring in such disbelieve for so long expecting one of the acts to disappear.

Way back in August of 2006 one of the greatest bands ever announced they hated each other and thus ended Death from Above 1979 but now, thanks to Coachella, they're back.

Currently we only have two dates set, Coachella and another festival in Austria, but we've got hints of a more tour dates. Personally I already hate myself for not purchasing a Coachella ticket before they sold out so if we get any show on the west side of the country I'll be making a road trip.

My Brightest Diamond

Shara Worden, of the always amazing band My Brightest Diamond, stopped by Studio 360 to debut her new song We Added It Up.

Fleet Foxes

Fleet Foxes have returned from the two year silence we've received since their debut back in 2008. According to their website the album, Helplessness Blues, will be released May 3rd.
Here's the self titled track

Bright Eyes

Conner Oberst is taking a break from his producing and his solo project, Conner Oberst and the Mystic Valley, and went back to his roots - Bright Eyes.

I've always been a huge Bright Eyes fan, starting when my good friend Brad showed me the video for At the Bottom of Everything, and its no exception with The People's Key.

Tapes 'n Tapes

in '08 Tapes 'n Tapes released one of my favorite albums of the year, Walk it Off.

Today their followed came out. From what I've heard I'm liking it. Hopefully the rest of the album is up to par.

Here's the track Freak Out from the new album Outside.

Okkervil River

Last night on Jimmy Fallon indie folk rockers, Okkervil River, announced the release date, album cover, and album title. I am Very Far will be released May 10th.

Last time they came to Salt Lake I wasn't able to see them, Gallivan Center isn't the best venue, but they sounded great.

Here's the new song "Wake and Be Fine" with a little help from A.C. Newman from The New Pornographers.
